Sounds like the stat to me too, would have said it could maybe be the temp sensor but if you're getting less warm air out of the vents than usual the stat is the place to start.

That's where I would probably be looking, most of these cars need the cooling system overhauled at some point. I got told this week that mine is on it's way out (sagging radiator and leaking thermostat) I'll just get the entire lot done when I have the time, money and inclination.

- For 2yrs 40,000mls engine temp guage has sat exactly half way never moved. Today on the way home it began to drop towards cold, yet increase slightly once stationary.

In determining the engine did not reach a "normal" temperature, it takes into account the length of time the vehicle has been running, the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor reading, the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor reading, and the speed of the vehicle.

Overheating can be caused by a few different factors. The simplest cause may be that your car needs more coolant. Yet depleted coolant can be caused by bigger problem, like leaks or faulty hoses, so always check for the underlying cause before simply filling it up with more. Another common reason for overheating may be that the radiator fan which keeps your engine cool is faulty, so check your fan motor connection and fan thermostat.

Part of the car's engine cooling system, the Suzuki SX4 thermostat has an important part to play in ensuring the engine stays at the right temperature for optimum performance, power and efficiency. The thermostat functions to prevent the movement of liquid coolant into the radiator until the engine has reached the correct temperature and allows the coolant to flow into the radiator when the engine needs cooling down.

Coupled with LPG this causes problems. The car switches to LPG at 40deg C but it took ages to get there! Rather than a mile before switching to gas it took about 10!

Is this an easy fix, and am I right to think theromstat?

The thermostat lies between the engine and the radiator, in the thermostat housing, sealed tightly with a Suzuki SX4 thermostat housing gasket. Circular in shape and manufactured from either felt, sponge, metal, or cardboard the thermostat gasket forms a firm seal.
