No problems at all. Good diesel usage. no spares yet required.

Corrie19995 months ago

Only had the car 7 months but so far reliability good everything electronic so faults would be flagged up . 5 year service plan included . car tax only ł30 per year .

Col Minessota4 months ago

Overall I like the car, just dissappointed with teh performance, (1.6 petrol) and ride quality. Had two faults fixed under warrenty so far, wasn't expecting any with a BMW.

BMW is recalling almost 570,000 cars in the U.S. and Canada because a battery cable connector can fail and cause the engines to stall.

Porker4 months ago

Never had a problem (yet). Fuel good, bmw parts cost a lot.

Watergirl4 months ago

Fully satisfied ,no problems, suits my style of driving.

BMW 1 Series axle problem (2004-2011 cars)Some 1 Series cars built between May and September 2004 had issues with their rear axles. The control arm may not have been fitted as intended, and as a result, the connections on the control arms could come loose. Unacceptable lateral forces could therefore be applied to the securing bolts and the exact alignment of the wheels could no longer be guaranteed.

Col Minessota4 months ago

Can't fault it in the time I've had it it's not put a foot (wheel?) wrong! It's a company car, fuel consumption's the only bill I have to worry about and it's not too bad.

R2_Amazeballs4 months ago

An ok car, good to drive but could be better overall

R2_Amazeballs4 months ago

Falls long way short of the perceived value of a BMW. Poor build quality on the 1 series

Fireboy4 months ago

48000 miles and nothing has gone wrong. It's a company car so I don't pay the bills. but nothing has gone wrong.

This fault code means that your ABS pump Module unit has failed and will need to be replaced, the main dealer are currently charging over £1500 + fitting for a replacement unit. We can now rebuild your own unit and provide a Lifetime unlimitted milage warranty.

FordOwner4 months ago

No problems in first 3 years but only covered 1600 miles to date. As above, no parts required.

Pete_W4 months ago

It is reliable but very bad in snow being a rear wheel drive. Service charges are high at dealer ship they rip you off but not very costly if one goes to a reliable service garage, and the parts have to be replaced on which ever parts gets needs replacing and are more or less same as the other makes.

No faults since ownership. Tyre consumption could be better.

Mary4 months ago

Has so far proved to be thoroughly reliable. Fuel efficiency falls well below government figues.

MDG Ltd4 months ago

Not owned long enough - however previous bmw120d was very reliable

FordOwner4 months ago

No problems yet. Surprisingly good servicing costs. 3 litre petrol so fuel a significant cost as is road tax.

Fireboy4 months ago

Never had any problems yet even in very cold weather. Parts can be expensive but overall tax and diesel - every day expenses is very good.

MechExp4 months ago

It has never let me down. Acceptable except for rising cost of fuel which is hardly the vehicles fault.

FordOwner4 months ago

Let me down on holiday this year! Petrol is so dear.

Porker4 months ago

Never had a problem. Decent mileage for type of driving that is done.

FordOwner4 months ago

Only six months old but not problems at all so far. A delight to drive.

Great to drive, efficency dynamics engine delivers good performance and excellent fuel consumption. Owned for 18 months and returned to dealer twice for minor problems. Good styling, performance and praccticality would definately choose a 1 Series again in the future.

Corrie19994 months ago

No problems - new car. Good - doesnt get anywhere near the claimed mpg figures just like all cars.

FordOwner4 months ago

I cannot find fault at all, apart from the fuel consumption is a fair bit worse than expected, but to be fair my car has only done just over 3000 miles!

R2_Amazeballs4 months ago

One major failure of the steering column lock but apart from that it has been very reliable. Low road tax and servicing costs.

FordOwner4 months ago

Owned several BMWs and other sports oriented cars including E46 M3. This one is great to drive and not too many on the roads.

Gary19964 months ago

Generally reliable but needed all ignition coils replacing under warranty as well as an engine sensor. Very economical for a 2.0 petrol engine, low servicing costs but only average road tax and insurance costs. Just the right amount of power for everyday road use.

Model has stupid problem with blocked washers. radio has interference. syncro crunches a bit from 3rd to 4th when first used in cold weather on first change up. Cheap for a bmw but wouldn't want a puncture or to replace the expensive tyres!

BMW 1 Series gear coupling fault

In 2011 the second-generation 1 Series was launched. It was bigger than the previous model and got a new range of engines. There are 1.6- or 2.0-litre petrol engines, or a 2.0-litre diesel all coming in different power outputs.

MechExp4 months ago

The control screen (for radio, telephone etc) does not work if you restart the car within 10 minutes of having turned the car off

BMW 1 Series airbag problem (2004-2011 cars)A number of cars built between May and July 2008 had airbag problems. Due to the faulty crimping of the component parts of the airbag wiring harness and seatbelt tensioner, both may not trigger in the event of an accident.

Col Minessota4 months ago

nice in the summer but shocking and too light in the winter.rear wheel drive no good in snow

Corrie19994 months ago

The 1 Series has been in production for nine years, so there are plenty of used examples out there. Heres a list of the most common problems owners have experienced.
