Has been faultless in the 2 1/2 years from new. Fuel consumption disappointing against manufacturers claims.dealer servicing costs very high.

Car done over 150,000 miles engine rebuild 10,000 miles ago , regular serviced by eurocar & rebuild. Engine rebuild & new turbo ł2,000.

The A3's cabin was well made if a little uninspiring. The face-lifts improved this perception, while maintaining the high-quality feel.

Gary19964 months ago

Car has excellent build quality for a small car, has been very reliable and it has achieved over 55mpg as an average on each monthly fuel claim submitted.

Pete_W4 months ago

Excellant car (its an SE so the suspension is not hard). The 1.8 Turbo engine is perhaps the best compromise between performance and economy - far better than a grumbly diesel, and with more linear torgue delivery. Build quality is faultless and styling is still perfect (understaled but classy)

Great car other than Differential problems which still aren't resolved fully. Car is 4x4 Haldex arrangement.

However, seeing as you have also mentioned your AC is not working, I would suggest that your 'Audi mechanic' checks the measured value block for the air conditioning refrigerant pressure sensor.  If this is reading too high, due to a faulty sensor or short circuit on the wiring, it will cause the fans to run at full speed and the air conditioning not to work (the compressor will be cut off as it already thinks the pressure is too high).

A very good car with typical Audi build quality. Only niggles are over firm ride and could be quieter, little bigger boot would be good too

the way i sum up my car is that i am very pleased overall with the car, and i rate the car good to excellent

Watergirl4 months ago

A very good honest car that does a lot of work and never causes me any problems. Very good spec and the dealer service is A*. My car is the A3 3 door sport and has an Audi styling kit on it and looks classy. This was my 1st Audi and my next car will be an Audi A5 for sure. Well done Audi.

No major problems since purchase. Fine for this car, age and milage considered.

Gary19964 months ago

A very economical car to run with superb styling and build quality.

Fireboy4 months ago

Also the air con will not operate - I have been told this is because one of the fans is controlling air con and it's getting a control from ecu not to operate. "Is this correct?"

R2_Amazeballs4 months ago

Not one fault. Amazing on fuel considering the engine size of 2.5l and being petrol tax is reasonable serviceing is a bit pricey almost ł210 just for an oil change from audi at ł100 per hour labour parts are resonable and insurance isnt that bad either.

This is the second a3 exactly the same I have had in succession based on reliability, mpg, driving experience. Servicing costs were expensive but had ot be done by main dealer under warranty.

Many Thanks to everyone for advice. The problem was a faulty pressure sensor on air conditioning side. Thank You very much.

Only one issue in 3 years and about 45k miles, clip on turbo exit hose broke. Basic service at back street mechanics plus tyres.

Gary19964 months ago

Graet car. Does most things very well but some areas comprimised. Dealer servicing expensive, but any decent garage should be able to do the work. Definitely the most reliable car I have owned.

Porker4 months ago

Great - and much better value to the similar new golf!

Fireboy4 months ago

Faultless ! I looked into this before ordering so I haven't had any surprises.

Did you get this looked at by an Audi dealership or somebody claiming to be an 'Audi mechanic'?

Corrie19994 months ago

Excellent reliability, no problems. I hoped the mpg would be higher.

petHead4 months ago

Cv joint problems. Good economy when driven sensibly. parts are expensive. ł280 for n/s driveshaft to replace cv joint.

FordOwner4 months ago

Good car, which has been reliable, not as fuel efficient as it was when new

Gary19964 months ago

A very good quality product - has been reliable and a joy to own

Col Minessota4 months ago

No problems since the day we bought it. At 50.4 to the gallon what more can I say.

R2_Amazeballs4 months ago

The car is not exciting but it is well built and reliable and I can drive a very long way on a tank of diesel.

Gary19964 months ago

Audi A3 clutch fan fault

The big problem is that both radiator fans run a full speed as soon as you put the keys into a on position. Both fans do however switch off when you take keys out.

FordOwner4 months ago

The second-generation Audi A3 is a great car, but there are some common problems that buyers should look out for. These issues should have been fixed by Audi, so make sure the work has been done before you buy.

Porker4 months ago

No problems so far. Serviced at an independent audi specialist garage reasonable costs for servicing. mpg, audi claim 48 but day to day driving I average 38 on longer journeys taking it steady 42 ! a little disappointed.

Matchmaker14 months ago

Five- and six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes were available across the range, and some of the more powerful petrol and diesel variants came with four-wheel drive.

Porker4 months ago

Clutch plate worn out ... replaced plate, but problem still exist (£900 cost to me) - thrust plate then replaced (under warranty) problem fixed...

Porker4 months ago

Currently 100% reliable. Fuel consumption improves on long runs at lower speeds, whether on main motorways/dual carriageways or country roads.

Good build quality, ecomonical but very poor specification for money

Gary19964 months ago

Reliable. fabulous build quality. good handling. reasonably understated looks but too expensive.

My Audi A3 has done 145,000 miles in four and a half years and apart from the normal servicing cost/tyres etc i have sent around £1100 on non warranty repairs which i dont think is that bad. its done everything i wanted it to do
