How to Test the Coil Pack (Ford 3.0L, 3.8L, 4.0L, 4.2L)

Mary5 months ago

TIP 2: I'm gonna' ask you to start and run the engine till it warms up, to test the thermostat... therefore you should not open the radiator cap under any circumstances.

Now, check the temperature of the upper radiator hose with your hand. The hose should be cold (ambient temperature). If the upper radiator hose is hot... then you need to let the engine cool down completely and start the test then. Don't skip this step... since you need to make sure that the upper radiator hose is cold (ambient temperature) before cranking and starting the engine.

A part within the fuel pump electric module may overheat, resulting in a loss of electrical power to the fuel pump.  As a result, the engine may stall or fail to start. Dealers will inspect the fuel pump electric module part number and replace the module free of charge as necessary to resolve the concern.

I don't have heat, the blower doesn't work and the floorboard is wet.

TIP 1: The easiest way to test the thermostat is with a scan tool that can read Live Data... and this is how I'm gonna' show you how to do it in this article.

The fuel delivery module may crack and leak fuel. Dealers will replace the fuel delivery module free of charge to resolve the concern.

Can you guys give me an idea as to what it would cost to have an average shop replace the heater core on an 07 Tarus? I'm hearing 600ish. Sounds high and that was not even the dealership. Thanks much, Wayne

When a thermostat fails the engines cooling system will not receive any coolant, which will in turn overheat the engine. When this occurs, the thermostat must be promptly replaced to avoid any serious damage to the engine.

The engine may misfire and/or buck while driving at freeway speeds with no fault code stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This can be caused by an intermittent fault with the camshaft synchronizer assembly. This condition can be diagnosed by monitoring knock sensor data as per Ford service bulletin #05-22-12. Replacement of the synchronizer assembly will be required to correct this concern.

There could be a bad heater control valve. Check Autozone.com.

I have a 2001 ford extended cab , no outside handles , both doors are stuck. How do I get doors open to remove door panels ? So I can check or replace door latch cables?

In this article I'll show how to do it in a few easy steps. If your vehicle is overheating, I have also included a brief test of the fan motor, to see if it's coming on at the correct temperature (if your specific Ford is equipped with a fan motor and not a fan clutch).

Changing a thermostat on a Ford Taurus requires draining the coolant, locating the thermostat and flushing the cooling system. Common symptoms of a failed thermostat include overheating and a knocking noise coming from the radiator.

It didn't pass because one of the codes didn't pass that they said and I paid the money so now do I get it free

Gary19964 months ago

Thankfully, there is a way to test the thermostat to find out if it has failed or not, without having to replace it first.

When the thermostat fails, one of two things will happen... either the engine overheats or stays so cool that the heater will not work.

My check engine light has been on for a few months. Originally when the issue began, a local auto shop machine said that it was oxygen sensors. I recently replaced two and it ran fine for a day. It seems fine when its started but when its in gear, it shakes, and it barely picks up any speed. There is also a burning smell. the second auto report stated that it now need as cam sensor and ignition coil.

Matchmaker14 months ago

you might have a bad actuator in your HVAC system that is not switching over to heat. Does it have any other symptoms (random clicks behind the dash)?

If the thermostat was stuck open it would be cooler not hotter. Sounds like your car is running normal for the hot weather, it just seems hotter to you since you AC isn't working.

The thermostat regulates the temperature on the Ford Taurus´ engine. When the coolant inside the radiator heats up to a certain degree the thermostat opens, releasing the coolant into the engine. This allows the engine to heat up quickly and efficiently.

A lot of folks are usually surprised to find out that a stuck open or missing thermostat has such a negative impact on gas mileage... but it does.

MechExp4 months ago

TIP 3: To successfully test the thermostat, it's very important that you start your troubleshooting with a completely cold engine.

Thermostats fail in one of two ways... they will either stay stuck open and let coolant circulate between the engine and radiator all of the time or they'll stay stuck closed.
