BRENTWOOD, Essex, April 17, 2013 – Reversing and parking are among the biggest sources of stress for many drivers, and now more and more Ford customers are buying cars that make those activities easier.

You have to prise it off and its inevitable to break at least one clip. I did it whilst installing the camera but to be honest even after breaking a few clips it still went back in without an issue and is secure.

Looks a bit more involved than pulling. The tabs at the sides would shear off if it was pulled off.

Ford’s Active Park Assist system, which was launched on Ford C-MAX in 2010 and is also available on Focus and new Kuga, uses ultra-sonic sensors to identify suitable parking spots. Active Park Assist automatically steers the vehicle while the driver controls the gears, throttle and clutch.

Adjustable Speed Limiter technology again topped the list of “must-have” features with 270,000 vehicles sold equipped with the technology. It allows drivers to set a maximum speed in order to reduce the risk of speeding fines or bans through inadvertently exceeding the legal limit. The system enables drivers to set a top speed between 10mph and 100mph; it can be temporarily overridden by pressing the accelerator firmly.

If you do not have a picture on your monitor then look very carefully at the screen. If you can see a very dark image on the screen then the backlight has failed. It is the end of the road for the monitor and replacement is necessary.

Drivers embrace Ford’s rear view camera – the Blue Oval’s fastest-growing driver aid

“Parking is the latest example of a tough, stressful task rendered simple by technology,” said Ford chief engineer Christof Kellerwessel. “Before GPS, you had to read a map or ask directions. Technology that was once unaffordable or far-fetched can now improve the lives of many.”

Take it to Rates Ford in Grays, they will sort it with no fuss, thats who the majority of us use for any work on the RS in the South East.

Ford also sold more than 100,000 vehicles in Europe equipped with Active Park Assist, the second best-selling aid, which helps drivers parallel park at the touch of a button, and without touching the steering wheel.

I am speaking to Ford about this but I can't get them to admit that what they are using is crap

As each system is different producing a generic fault finding set of notes is not easy!

Decided to contact Ford via Facebook and ask if they can liaise with garage to sort this lot out.

If the monitor has an LED that lights up when it has power, then if this is not lit check there is 12v going to the monitor. Monitors often have a black filter box and inside is a small fuse. It is not uncommon for these to blow or even drop out of the fuse holder.

“Our driver assistance technologies really do make a difference in day-to-day driving,” added Kellerwessel. “We’re committed to democratisingthese features and making motoring less stressful for ever increasing numbers of customers.”

If you are sure the monitor has power and it does not respond to the on off button then the chances are it has failed. It is worth disconnecting it from the power and reconnecting. We have known a monitor “freeze” and is reset by this.

Father in law has had problems with his nx rear camera on his kuga he says it has dropped and it doesn't always work but fords keep saying there's nothing wrong with it.

Remember do not have nightmares after reading this. Considering the hostile operating environment these are used in the failure rates are low. A system should give many years of use and should outlive the vehicle in many cases.

A Ford survey revealed that nearly one third of European drivers said they needed more than one attempt at parallel parking and new drivers rated parallel parking as being as stressful as Christmas shopping and twice as nerve-racking as motorway driving or a visit from the in-laws.*

Got my car back from the dealers, all they said was it needed a new camera. Sorry I can't tell you more.

Corrie19994 months ago

Anybody know how to access the camera. I can't see how to take the trim off without breaking the clips off. Particularly the ones on the outside edge next to the rear light lenses.

Earlier this year I had a reverse camera fault on my 13 plate Titanium X Estate. The problem was dealt with at the first service in March this year and was due to a faulty connection in the tailgate and some special lubricant that it is coated in.

Ford Mondeo rear view camera fault

Car booked in for Monday 3rd August so they can have another crack at it.

Fireboy4 months ago

Car has been back to the dealers and all sorted....This is the 3rd time it has been back for the same problem and on all 3 occasions the fault is a connection in the tailgate.

Bri19874 months ago

Yes I have front and rear sensors. Warranty ran out six months ago I'm afraid.

Red4 months ago

I've got exactly the same problem, it's booked in to the local dealer on Friday so I'll let you know what they say.

MechExp4 months ago

I was told it was in the tailgate but not told exactly where in the tailgate

It seems that the waterproof grease that is used on the connection is just not up to the job.

Strange menus. This can happen when the software becomes corrupt. We can sometimes resolve this, but often it needs returning to the factory.

Ford’s fastest-growing driver assistance technology of 2012 was the rear view camera that helps drivers with reversing manoeuvres including parking. Ford customers in Europe bought 55,000 cars equipped with rear view cameras, over 11,000 of which were in the UK.  This represents an increase of 45 per cent on the 38,000 sold in 2011 in Europe – making it the third best-selling driver aid.

If there are large black areas on the monitor screen then this is caused by the front of the screen being pressed too hard. This is physical damage and not covered by the guarantee.

Matchmaker14 months ago

Yes mine did this for a few weeks over the car's first winter, but never since. I'd like to apply electrical compound to the connector though to make sure no electrolysis occurs.
