Hi, i have owned a 99 plate mk1 1.6 for 5 years best car i have ever had always had ford but the focus is the best if any thing happened to it i would have another one tomorrow

Porker4 months ago

Does what I wanted it to and what I bought it for. No problems with it, of any significant nature

Mary4 months ago

We will let it build up for a while and then get it turned into a decent buyers guide.

After owning this car for seven years it is still a pleasure to drive especially long distances ie into Europe

Pete_W4 months ago

Very pleased with the overall reliability & performance of this Ford Model. I would consider having another Ford car.

MechExp4 months ago

Ford Mondeo are a great car. Looks good, performs well, solid build quality and ver reliable. Couldn't fault it so far. I think it has replaced the old Toyota Carina E as a good solid, reliable car. Was always a Toyota fan but the Anensis has been a big dissapointment.

Watergirl4 months ago

Primarily good value for money. It is a Mondeo estate basic 1.8 petrol model. You get a lot of car for the money. It is very versatile, handles well and comfortable on long European journeys. I found the workmanship at the dealership not very effective when fixing the water ingress problem. I would probably buy another more modern and better equipped Ford in the future.

Apart from a couple of minor faults, the car has not missed a beat. Fuel consumption has been good - especially on motorways. insurance is cheap and reliability has been good so no major costs apart from 2 tyres which cost ł320.

Gary19964 months ago

The ST220 estate is a very good family car loads of space and plenty of extras over the standard model. The ride is ok but with sports suspension you got to expect this. And with five people in the car the st has no problems with power and torque,an exellent tourer.

MDG Ltd4 months ago

Completely reliable, absolutely no problems of any kind up til now. As you would expect from a 2litre car which is used mostly in an urban environment.

Corrie19994 months ago

I like my car very much and it is very reliable.

Pete_W4 months ago

Possibly the most value for money vehicle money can buy.

Fionas_Boy4 months ago

The Ford Mondeo is one of the best driving cars on the road - however the ride is quite hard on the optional 18" tyres. The 138 bhp diesel engine suits the car well but power and economy are beginning to fall behind the competition, Reliability has been faultless and build quality is generally excellent - just a small quation mark about ultimate longevity compared to the best Germans. Overall, a fantastic car which I am very happy with.

petHead4 months ago

Can't really fault it, easily live up to my expectations and more

MechExp4 months ago

No problems in 76k miles only broken spring. Good overall. Like the torque but newer mondeo has lost the low down pull from 1500rpm.

Mary4 months ago

An axle shaft exists on front engine rear-wheel drive vehicles and most four-wheel drive vehicles. The shaft is beneath the car and couples the transmission with the rear differential, providing power and torque from the engine to the other end of the vehicle to turn the wheels. There is no axle shaft on front-wheel drive cars, which instead use a transaxle, combining the transmission and differential.

Ford have now up with the best on build quality

Red4 months ago

No happy with it as it has broken down twice since I have owned it. The running costs is about what I would expect for a car of its size.

petHead4 months ago

Very few problems. intermittent speed sensor only significant one (due to connector corrosion)

R2_Amazeballs4 months ago

It is important to note that not all noises and vibrations indicate an axle shaft problem. For example, a steady vibration while maintaining a constant speed may be the result of worn tires or tracking that is out of alignment.

MDG Ltd4 months ago

the gearbox speed sensor is prone to failing symptoms are the car cutting out when slowing or stopping the speedo drops to zero whilst driving

Direction indicators not self cancelling on mk1 & mk1.5

Watergirl4 months ago

Thanks for your advice I apreciate it and I will do as advised cheers

Fionas_Boy4 months ago

The VSS is not an expensive part but can be a pain to do, it's stuck quite firmly into the top of the gearbox casing and held in with a fragile pin.

Fionas_Boy4 months ago

Ford Focus beam axle fault

Always starts no major faults experienced. Common model easy to find spares at a decent price.

MechExp4 months ago

Has been very reliable all the years l have owned it. usual repairs completed, usually picked up on the mot. Has not been too bad because not many repairs have been needed. I also do some of the maintenance myself having served an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic.

Fireboy4 months ago

Not the best car in the world, but not the worst by a long shot. Re-current gearbox problems, and seized caliper, but also fuel pump replaced

MDG Ltd4 months ago

It could be the position sensor on the throttle pedal or a problem with the throttle body or idle valve.

Porker4 months ago

The car is generally good, with the exception of brakes being below standard, and there are some areas of engine 'reliability' that indicates some degree of poor quality control or design fault. Unfortunately these are not going to be repairable under warranty.

Corrie19994 months ago

A rear axle joins the chassis of the car to the wheels and helps to maintain the wheels position in relation to others and the vehicle body.

Gary19964 months ago

i did not think fords still had a rust problem. The bottom of the rear doors are rusting a common problem i have been told!!!!!

Watergirl4 months ago

Before looking to replace the VSS I strongly recommend you check the plug and cable for damage and corrosion as it is pretty exposed to dirt, water and wear'n'tear.

Fionas_Boy4 months ago

Pretty reliable - no major problems. Cost of minor bodywork damage (like replacement bumpers) is high. Performance is acceptable for the class. Only real annoyance is that the tyre pressures do not stay at a decent level for any time at all, meaning I have to keep a constant eye on them, and carry a tyre pressure meter and pump everywhere.

Bri19874 months ago

Excellent family car that is also fun to drive. Reliable and a good all rounder.

MechExp4 months ago

Hi , Your headlight leveling control is controlled by 2 sensors. 1 at the front suspension of the vehicle, and 1 at the rear suspension of the vehicle.

Corrie19994 months ago

I have mk1 focus 51 plate 1.6 estate and I'm just enquiring I've got a little problem the centrel locking clicks on and off wile driving and the speedo works then just drops I'm just wondering if any one mite know the problem is and how to fix it thanks

Fireboy4 months ago

Very useful, & comfortable estate car with good economy. Only problem is that it smokes on hard acceleration, & nobody knows how to fix it - "They all do that sir!"

Watergirl4 months ago

The car itself is rewarding, when you reflect there is 72000 miles on the clock, I just wish I could have the same opinion of its manufactorer!!!
