Concern had been raised over the proximity of a coal mine when building here.

Chelsea's Choice is a very powerful play about Child Sexual Exploitation.  It raises important issues about internet use, healthy relationships and the grooming process. It will be performed to pupils in Year 8 and Year 9 from September 2016.  The topic will be followed up in Relationship and Sex Education lessons in Citizenship and it is an important aspect of Tibshelf's safeguarding policy.

Germany and Hereford Residential Visits in July 2017 are now full.  There are still spaces available for Whitby and London.

Other leisure highlights include Tibshelf Ponds, which stand at an ex-colliery site. They are 2 popular and well-stocked fishing ponds, which contain mixed coarse fish and carp. Angling is controlled by Tibshelf and Newton Angling Club. One pond is available to fish on a day ticket, with the other being permit only.

In 1995 Welcome Break worked on new plans for a service area here. They had to hold back as the Highways Agency were considering dropping plans to widen and realign the M1 which would have affected the position of the services. After this happened Roadchef and Extra showed an interest in the plans, and eventually pushed through with a revised plan to become operator and forecourt operator respectively.

A Spar store is due to be introduced here to the southbound side soon.

Tibshelf is a village and civil parish in Derbyshire, England. It is in the Bolsover district of the county. The closed public house The Slap and Tickle was demolished in 2014 and construction began on a new building to relocate the Co-Operative food shop. The Wheatsheaf closed shortly after 2010, and is being converted into private dwellings.[6]

The services were planned to be a few hundred yards further up the M1, on the other side of the footbridge you can see ghost slips and land shaped for a normal straight four-sliproad service area. This was built with the M1, which was planned to gain three additional services. Presumably an expansion of the industrial estate meant that the site for this one had to be moved.
