The town is just to the north of Southend on Sea, but is sufficiently separated from both Southend and Rayleigh to preserve its own identity [weasel words].

Until the early 1980s one of the largest employers in Rochford was the Lesneys factory, who manufactured the famous Matchbox miniature die cast model. However, this company relocated to Rugby, Warwickshire in 1990.[citation needed]

It was returned to civilian service on 31 December 1946.[5]

In October 2009 the Rochford District was commended at a national level for its outstanding progress in boosting domestic recycling rates from "below 20 per cent to nearly 70 per cent",[1] in the National Recycling Awards.[2] Rochford District was nominated in the Local Authority Target Success category, and beat four other short-listed local authorities to claim the award.[3]

Rochford Congregational Church has been part of the local community since 1750. The Congregational Church also established the first Dissenting School in the area; When others were afraid of educating the children of the lower classes because they might prove a danger to the state, the church ensured that ordinary people had "a plain and useful education." [11]

Maureen’s Gift is a resident-led initiative offering support and encouragement for local people to assist their communities in making life a richer experience.

It was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of the Rayleigh Urban District and the Rochford Rural District.

The beautiful Rayleigh Windmill is a Grade II listed building more than 200 years old. It has a museum, an exhibition space and information about Rayleigh Mount. It's situated next to a Sensory Garden and is an award-winning tourist attraction. 

Tenants who live in homes owned by Rochford Housing Association and leaseholders whose lease is with Rochford Housing Association were consulted about moving ownership directly to Sanctuary Housing Association.

We will determine the total costs for each scheme and then divide between the total number of properties. These charges are then split into weekly payments to help tenants spread the costs.

Rochford Methodist Church, near the White Horse Public House. The Methodists have been in Rochford since 1822, originally meeting in a building where Market Alley turns into the Square. In 1841 they moved to a new building in North Street near Weir Pond Road, and in 1880 they moved to their current premises.[12]

Rochford Housing’s retirement living properties provide high quality accommodation and support services for those aged 60 and over (or 55 and over if registered disabled), allowing residents to live independently in a comfortable secure environment. Residents have their own accommodation and front door key, with access to a range of additional services, including support from retirement living staff and a 24-hour telecare alarm system.

The Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East is James Duddridge (Conservative). An electoral ward in the same name exists. At the 2011 Census this ward had a population of 7,695.[6]

St Andrew's Church, Rochford, is close to Rochford Hall, and is part of Rochford Deanery,[8] within the Bradwell Area[9] of the Church of England Diocese of Chelmsford.[10]

The Old House in Rochford dates back to 1270. Built of a timber frame with wattle and daub panels, the house was the height of luxury in medieval England. Rochford District Council restored the house to its original glory using as much of the original materials as possible.

Rochford Hall is partly privately owned by a family which live within the building, along with the golf course who also own a part of it as their clubhouse. In 1525, Henry VIII awarded Thomas Boleyn the title of Viscount Rochford. Rochford Hall subsequently became the home of Mary Boleyn, sometime mistress of Henry VIII and (probably elder) sister of Queen Anne Boleyn, during Mary's second marriage to Sir William Stafford.

The £5,000 fund is in memory of local community champion Maureen Vince who passed away in 2010. Maureen was a parish councillor for 16 years, a former chair of the Rochford Housing board and was heavily involved in many community groups and charities district-wide. 

General rented housing provides affordable homes for people on low incomes. Our rented properties are available at lower rents than the open market. We have waiting lists for homes to rent in all parts of the country.

Nearby Southend Airport started life as a grass fighter station in World War I.[3] The site was founded in the autumn of 1914 when farmland between Westbarrow Hall and the Great Eastern railway line at Warners Bridge 2½ miles north of Southend Pier was acquired for RFC training purposes. Training continued until May 1915 when the site, known also as Eastwood, was taken over by the RNAS to become a Station (night) in the fight against intruding Zeppelins.[citation needed]

Rochford Hospital was officially opened on Thursday 7 May 2009 by Professor Louis Appleby.

Any ongoing costs for these items, such as maintenance costs, can be charged to you. These costs are classed as ‘ineligible charges’ which Housing Benefit does not cover. You would be responsible for paying us for these costs regardless of whether you claim Housing Benefit or not.
