As a result of this recruitment process we now have another Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Belinda Edwards and an Urgent Care Practitioner (UCP) Julia Weiskrantz, who has a paramedic background and will  go out into the local community visiting our housebound patients when required.  Belinda will hold clinics and conduct home visits.

My father was born in Shropshire in 1919, his family name was Talbot changed by his father to Talbott because there were so many Talbot's and the mail was always sent to the wrong address. The family lived in or around Oakengates for many years until my father married and moved to Sheffield. I recall visiting the old family home at Christmas time each year. Proud of my heritage.

We aim to provide a personal service, with continuity of care, for the Oakengates and wider Telford & Wrekin community.

A new system has been created to make it easier for you to pick up your repeat prescription. It is called the Electronic Prescription Service, or EPS for short.

Oakengates

This is a new service that our practice is trying out.

We know that for most people, early assessment and advice from a Physiotherapist will help improve or resolve many muscular, joint and spine complaints. At the moment, people may have to wait to see their GP, who then arranges a referral for treatment, which may involve yet another wait. We would like to reduce the time people have to wait to be seen for muscular and joint problems so that they can get better quicker.

Oakengates is a town in the borough of Telford and Wrekin and ceremonial county of Shropshire, England, and now forms part of the new town of Telford. The parish's population was recorded as 8,517 in the 2001 census.[1]

The practice already has a Patient Participation Group who meet on a quarterly basis which is very pro active in helping the practice improve its patient services. However we are aware that it is sometimes inconvenient or difficult for people to give up their valuable time to come to meetings here at the surgery, therefore we would like to set up a Virtual Patient Participation Group which will run alongside our current Patient Group.

Due to a national shortage of GPs it is becoming increasingly difficult to replace GPs with other GPs, therefore the practice has been in the process of recruiting other clinical practitioners such as Advance Nurse Practitioners, Associate Physicians, Urgent Care Practitioners and Nurse Prescribers who will enable us to sign post you to the most appropriate clinician for your healthcare and help shorten appointment waiting times.

The Crown Inn is now listed with our friends at www.perfectpint.co.uk showing (amongst other things) the beers and ciders that we have available.  We will try to keep this up to date and hope to list the beer festival beers as well, although it depends on perfectpint having the up-to-date brewery information first!

Before the formation of the District of The Wrekin (Telford) and later the Borough of Telford and The Wrekin, the Urban District of Oakengates comprised Oakengates, Wrockwardine Wood, St. George's, Priorslee, Snedshill, The Nabb, Wombridge and Trench, and always had a Labour council.

If you would be happy to be contacted via email, no more than 3-4 times a year, to give us your views and participate in the occasional patient survey please click here.

Family legend has it that Grandad took a small party of friends for a pint or two in Oakengates. At the end of the evening for a lark he undid the traces and when they set off the horses went and the cart tipped up, to great hilarity. I also remember Mrs Hitchen, at the end house a few houses up from Gran, who's ...Read full memory
