The United keeper married her in 2008 after nearly a year together, while Aguero married Diego Maradona's daughter Giannina before their divorce earlier this year.

Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero has gone on national television to blast claims that his wife, Eliana Guercio, slept with Manchester City man Sergio Aguero.

Van Gaal signed the Argentine goalkeeper for Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, and they won the Eredivisie together in 2009

Romero saved spot-kicks from Ron Vlaar and Wesley Sneijder, projecting himself into Argentinian folklore and earning ‘Hands of God’ headlines the morning after. Compared to previous hero Sergio Goycochea, he was perhaps almost seen as deserving of his mantle as the most-capped Argentine keeper ever, displacing 1978 World Cup-winner and legendary figure Ubaldo Fillol in top position.

Eliana, 37, insisted: “It is not true. I have never had anything with Aguero. It seems terrible to me that they could link me with Kun [Aguero].

Romero, a new signing at Old Trafford but a teammate of Aguero at international level, denied the two were "bitter enemies" after the City man's alleged fling with Guercio in 2006.

He grew up in Stockport, Greater Manchester and has worked in the local newspaper industry for 27 years.

With De Gea expected to be reintegrated into the United first-team, Romero is facing a battle to keep hold of the No 1 jersey.

The vehicle was set to be seized but it was too big to be taken away on a low-loader.

It’s understood the 28 year-old had his wife, the model Eliana Guercio , and their two children with him at the time he was pulled over, shortly before 5.30pm.

And she said of her husband: “He is totally divine. Instead of annoying me, he calms me down.

Romero represented Argentina at the 2007 South American Youth Championship in Paraguay and at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada where on 8 August 2007 Romero was first included in the Argentine selection for a friendly match against Norway and against Australia, which Argentina also went on to win. He replaced injured Oscar Ustari at the 2008 Summer Olympics football tournament.

Just hours after announcing his switch to the Etihad, Otamendi met up with United's goalkeeper in Manchester's swanky San Carlo venue

Romero was part of Sergio Batista's 2011 Copa América squad in which Argentina the hosts lost to Uruguay on penalties in the quarter-finals. He retained his position as number one choice under new coach Alejandro Sabella for the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The move to the French Ligue 1 was a frustrating one as he lost out to Danijel Subasic for the no.1 slot. He later conceded: “It was an unusual year. Alex Sabella let me play for Argentina but I didn’t have the same luck with my club.” It has been something of a recurring theme for Romero, who is held in the highest esteem at international level.

He added: "Let me tell you, I don't think that the goalkeeper spot in United is already mine. I do know that I have a huge support from Van Gaal and his staff."

"It's important for a goalkeeper to have this support because there is no rotation between goalkeepers -- a goalkeeper starts or he is benched. They are the only two choices - there is not a third one."

"Playing for United is a dream and if God helps me this dream will never end," Romero told Argentine newspaper La Nacion.

However he has so far only made four appearances for Louis Van Gaal’s men, playing understudy to David de Gea.

Romero left the Netherlands after van Gaal departed for Bayern Munich, accepting a fresh challenge with Sampdoria in Italy’s Serie B. The Genoa-based side gained promotion back to the top flight with the Argentinian between the posts and he was a regular the following term before switching to Monaco on a season-long loan.

However he has been reported to the DVLA and been warned that the vehicle, models of which can cost up to £300,000, will be confiscated if his affairs aren’t put in order.

He had previously spent four years in Italy at Serie A side Sampdoria.

Romero has already kept four clean sheets but was heavily criticised for his performance in the 2-1 defeat at Swansea City prior to the international break.

Deemed a potential weak link in a star-studded Argentina squad before a ball had been kicked, he proved any doubters wrong by performing superbly. One miraculous save in a nervous group win over Iran even prompted pop star Rihanna to tweet a message saying: ‘Romero is on point’!

“The owner was reported to the DVLA and issued with a warning that if the car is not taxed and registered for use in the UK then it will be seized.”

Romero was called up to the full senior side by then coach Diego Maradona debuting on 9 September 2009 in a 0-1 FIFA World Cup qualifier loss against Paraguay and playing in the win against Uruguay in Montevideo that saw Argentina qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He played in all five of Argentina's World Cup matches which ended at the quarter-final stage.

On 22 August 2011, Romero was signed by UC Sampdoria for €2.1 million in a 4-year contract,[5][6] relegated the previous season to Serie B. He made his debut four days later at home against Calcio Padova. The season ended with Sampdoria in sixth place, and after victories over U.S. Sassuolo Calcio and AS Varese 1910 in the playoffs, they earned promotion to Serie A.

And he said of Aguero, 27: “I’m friends with him for over 10 years, imagine that. I couldn’t talk to him, but for sure I’m going to call him.

Martin Rickett/PA Wire United: Romero has been married to his wife since 2008

Sergio Romero has had to contend with ups and downs throughout his career but his undoubted highlight came at Louis van Gaal’s expense during the 2014 World Cup semi-finals.

“The owner is a UK resident and the car is believed to have been in the country for a number of months without being taxed or registered in the UK.

Officers carried out checks and discovered the plush Ferrari was registered in Italy and wasn’t taxed.

Fillol was his idol. “When it comes to football, ‘El Pato’ is my father,” he stated. “Everything I’ve achieved is down to him. He’s the best Argentina has ever had. There shouldn’t be anyone who goes past him.”

Sergio Romero was stopped as he was driving down Victoria Street, at the bottom of Deansgate, opposite Manchester Cathedral on Thursday evening.
