After being the runner-up at the last two Montana Men's State Amateur golf tournaments,  Porch emphatically claimed the 99th State Am title Saturday.

The Townsend football team returns a ton of talent after winning the Class B state football title a year ago, but there is plenty of competition for the Bulldogs to try to keep at bay for a repeat.

Kyla Clancy and the University of Rocky women’s golf program captured titles at the Frontier Conference golf championships on Wednesday. Clancy’s three-day total of 232 was four strokes better than UGF’s Gina Kowolchuk (236). Lexi Pyette and Rachel Miles of Carroll College finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Pyette totaled a 253 while Miles was one stroke back at 254. 

Longtime basketball coach Darrell Holland: “He didn’t have a weakness. But 3-point shooting or outside shooting was just something he just had perfected. And he could pull up from 25 (feet), 28, it didn’t matter where. He could pull up from anywhere and just drain it. He was kind of one of those shooters, he might miss four or five in a row, but it didn’t bother him at all. Because he might make the next 15 in a row. He was just one of those unconscious, yeah, unconscious shooters.

As high school basketball in Montana continues to evolve, the cries for a shot clock have grown louder. The noise has now gotten loud enough that the Montana High School Association is sending surveys to member schools to determine the overall interest in adding a shot clock to the game.

Former Carroll College offensive lineman and executive vice president of the Cleveland Browns Bryan Wiedmeier passed away Tuesday. He was 57. Wiedmeier was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer in October of 2012 and was given only 15 months to live. He would go on to live nearly four years after the initial diagnosis.

Montana State is interviewing University of Utah Deputy Athletics Director Kyle Brennan on campus today for the Bobcats' AD job. Brennan is the second of five finalists this week to interview in Bozeman. 

UGF defeated Southern Oregon 3-2 to claim an automatic berth.

After a week long hiatus finals, the Buffalo Bulls are ready to get back into the swing of things and take on Big Sky opponent Montana State. The Bobcats are 5-5 against opponents that are easier than what UB has seen so far this season. After this game, the Bulls head to a top-50 opponent in VCU and hope to grab a huge win given the state of the program before they're on another small break for Christmas. The CMR Stampede hits Stanford on Friday and while most cowboys will be competing for checks, one bronc rider will saddle up for a cause. Geyser’s Tyrell Smith is donating a portion of his winnings this season to childhood friend and fellow rough stock rider Chris Johnson of Iowa, who is undergoing chemotherapy treatments for stage three testicular cancer. 

Melinda (Owen) Withrow, a Polson native, advanced to Sunday’s finals of the pole vault at the Olympic Trials at Hayward Field. Withrow, 31, cleared 4.35 meters in the qualifying round on Friday. She is one of 14 women who will vault on Sunday attempting to earn a berth at the Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil. Jenn Suhr, the 2012 Olympic champion, has the top qualifying height of 4.50 meters. Sunday’s finals are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. (MST). 

The games will take place at Paris Gibson Education Center and are free to the public.

Montana State University has hired Kyle Brennan, deputy athletic director at the University of Utah, as its next athletic director, the university announced today. Brennan will begin his duties no later than July 1.   

McCormick is a four-time all-state basketball player and four-time all-conference selection. 

The campers go from one position group to another, learning techniques and running drills for that specific position.
