Partnerships and city friendships are a weaker form of cooperation than the sister city relationship, acting more like a fixed-term cooperation or limited to certain projects. Frankfurt has partnerships with the following cities:

The men couldn’t reach the same heights though, and it took FSV Frankfurt eleven years to leave the days as an amateur club behind, at least temporarily. FSV performed well during the 1993/94 season and reached the playoff round to the 2. Bundesliga. FSV locked horn with SSV Ulm, Eintracht Trier and Kickers Emden in the playoff, and the club could eventually celebrate another promotion after ending the playoff in an impressive fashion.

Eintracht Frankfurt have been hit with two partial stadium closures following incidents at their DFB Pokal match in Magdeburg in August.

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez was on fire for Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

After a last-gasp goal that clinched a 3-2 away win against Mainz, the Mexican striker walked away with the match ball with an impressive tally of three goals for Leverkusen. The hat trick for Hernandez was his second since joining the Bundesliga club last summer.

Movie entrepreneur Karl-Heinz Böllinghaus took over the team in 1964 and promised to lead the club to a finish in the first third of the table and, eventually, to the Bundesliga. Böllinghaus wasn’t able to live up to his words, however, and FSV could only secure mediocre positions in the table, and their attendance began to decline. In the end, FSV had to face relegation from the second division as well.

In 1967, Eintracht won the Intertoto Cup after beating Inter Bratislava in the final.

Financial debts and only short stints back to the second division followed until 1975, when FSV finally managed to win promotion without being relegated immediately. FSV drew 2-2 in the final game against VfR Bürstadt in 1975, in front of a record crowd of 17, 000 people, and won promotion to the newly formed 2. Bundesliga. FSV Frankfurt remained a second division team until 1983, when a winless streak of five games led the club back to the amateur divisions once again.

During their first German Cup match of the season, Frankfurt supporters lit smoke pots and used the smokescreen to fire a tracer into the neighbouring Magdeburg block.

The most famous athlete of Eintracht Frankfurt is Betty Heidler, the hammer thrower world champion of 2007. Other Eintracht athletes include the 2008 Olympians Andrea Bunjes, Ariane Friedrich, Kamghe Gaba and Kathrin Klaas.

The 2011–12 season saw FSV Frankfurt play local rival Eintracht Frankfurt in a league match for the first time in almost 50 years. The last league game between the two had been played on 27 January 1962, then in the Oberliga Süd. For the first of the two matches, FSV's home game on 21 August 2011, the decision was made to move to Eintracht's stadium as FSV's Volksbankstadion only holds less than 11,000 spectators and in excess of 40,000 spectators are expected for the game.[3]

The sports club Eintracht Frankfurt e.V. is made up of sixteen sections:

The Alte Oper is a former opera house, hence the name "Old Opera". It was built in 1880 by architect Richard Lucae. It was one of the major opera houses in Germany until it was heavily damaged in World War II. Until the late 1970s, it was a ruin, nicknamed "Germany's Most Beautiful Ruin". Former Frankfurt Lord Mayor Rudi Arndt called for blowing it up in the 1960s, which earned him the nickname "Dynamite-Rudi". (Later on, Arndt said he never had meant his suggestion seriously.)

The side continued to play good football and earned themselves a place as one of the original 16 teams selected to play in the Bundesliga, Germany's new professional football league, formed in 1963. Eintracht played Bundesliga football for 33 seasons, finishing in the top half of the table for the majority of them. Their best Bundesliga performances were five third-place finishes: they ended just two points back of champion VfB Stuttgart in 1991–92.

The ground was inaugurated as Waldstadion ("Forest Stadium") in 1925 with the German championship final match between FSV Frankfurt vs. Nuremberg. The facility was renovated for the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany. For Bundesliga fixtures the maximum capacity is 51,500 as on the East Stand next to the visitor's terrace some spaces are held free for security purposes.

It’s hard not to wonder, however, what FSV Frankfurt would have become if they had performed better in the 60’s and gotten a place in the first ever edition of the Bundesliga. The road back to professional football has been long and hard on them ever since that year, and it wasn’t really until 2008 that they once and for all established themselves as a professional club, with a small but true and passionate, fan base.
