Hi. I've posted an introduction to my company (Courtesy Vehicle Solutions) but am also very keen to get feedback from local business owners who may have needed to hire a vehicle for business or even personal use in the past. Which rental company did you use, were you happy with the service and cost etc. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I run **removed**, and I'm trying to build up my client base around customers who need personal support and a more pro-active approach than you get from the normal dime-a-dozen hosting companies. If you are a single handed or small web design practice in the West Midlands, and you want to support local businesses (as I do), I'd be keen to know what you look for in a web hosting company, and what kinds of help you commonly need, and don't get from the big boys. Thanks for any feedback. Steve

Your only supposed to set up a Local listing if you provided a face to face service or customers can just turn up during your marked office hours and find you open. The main idea is that if someone is walking down the street, looks for something on their mobile, finds a local business on a map, sees that they are open and goes along, thet should expect to find them open. It is predominantly a Maps product Unfortunately, as you can see from the poster above, lots of people try and cheat the system and that ruins it for all.

BusyVids, the small business video production company is leading the way, and showing the way for small businesses in how to target their local markets. The company specialises in creating low-cost but highly effective videos to help businesses showcase their products and services all over the internet, via Youtube and several other video sharing platforms. BusyVids managing director, Bill Knight said, "Video is huge on the internet but many small businesses who trade locally or companies who target specific locations have yet to understand the full benefits of video marketing or the impact it can have. It's because of this we have decided to offer local small business owners a taster by way of an entry level video at a reduced cost." He added, "Once business owners can see how effective a marketing video is, and will continue to be for many months or even years into the future, they soon realise that video represents unbeatable value and gives them a formidable internet presence. Our initial findings would suggest that local video advertiisng is now set to explode all over the internet." The popularity of video marketing continues to grow at a breath-taking rate and is now widely accepted amongst the large national companies, many of whom have diverted much of their TV advertising budgets to Internet video. Social media, such as Youtube and Facebook, are helping to spread the word about this highly engaging medium, as general viewing rates rise at a phenomenal rate. BusyVids works with companies of all sizes and offers several production options, without having to visit their clients and without the overheads of larger video producers. To find out more about BusyVids, their various video options and their special low-cost entry level video offer for small local businesses, visit their website at: www.busyvids.co.uk or call them on 01275 837577

Hi all, I was hoping some people would be able to help me with getting new business within the field of social media consultancy. I am currently self employed (recently started Fluent Social Media . co . uk) and I work with a few different businesses and companies and want to expand my clientele. The main businesses I work with came through word of mouth through other businesses, but I was just wondering how else I could get some work and any techniques or advice you guys could offer. My main aim is to help people and businesses understand social media, there are a lot in my field doing it for the wrong reasons and charging a fortune for it, I want to genuinely help these people realise how much potential social media has and how helpful it can be when used well. I don't really want to cold call people or send mass emails, I've recently created my own database of local businesses but I'd like to avoid those options if possible. I've been to a few networking events and feel this could be a great way to move forward, but while word of mouth is great it would be lovely to get a few more clients under my belt and have an actual method of getting them. Thanks, hope someone can help! James.

Hi All, I'm investigating the interest in a Business Mastermind group.(in Belfast likely, but I'd rather Ballymena ) Now I know most members of this forums are [most] likely to be tech savvy, but this is a face to face (paid for) meetup. Here's how I see it.... Entrepreneur, SOHO, small business owner? You're doing everything in your business for yourself AND by yourself and you're overwhelmed. Outside of the corporate world you lack accountability to anyone (other than perhaps your spouse) and that is not good for your long term success or short term performance. Enter the Mastermind Group. The group is established for forward thinking entrepreneurs who wish to seek help for their own challenges and to give advice and support to the needs of other members. As the group grows we invest in each other, by seeking direction on our challenges, and advising others on solutions to theirs. Everyone benefits from the collective experience of other group members. You will set & share 30-day business goals with the group; keeping you focused and moving forward. You will be held accountable by the group for the outcome of those goals. Our structured format is designed for us to help one another out, so we are seeking members who are willing to participate, share their goals and challenges, seek wisdom from a collection of other local business people who have a wealth of experience and expertise between them. No, its not BNI, or any other sort of Networking or selling group.... this is a limited group coaching/ business improvement environment where we all give/ receive help and advice. Any takers?

Hello UKBF. Wigan Borough Business Club (WBBC) starts back next week after the summer break. WBBC is a totally free networking and business support group that meets once a month in the Wigan Borough. WBBC is run by local businesses for local businesses. We are a not-for-profit organisation that has been running for donkeys years! You don't have to join, or pay anything, it's totally without obligation. Just bring plenty business cards! We start the meeting off with refreshments/buffet and informal networking then we have an educational presentation from a local business or organisation. The meetings are usually on the first Tuesday of the month and are hosted at various locations around the borough. Next week’s meeting is at Yorkshire Bank in Wigan Town Centre, and takes place between 6:30 and 8:30-9ish. It helps if you can book in advance. Bookings are taken through the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce website (which help support our group). For details and how to book please visit the WBBC website. Just Google 'Wigan Borough Business Club' Also please see our Linked In Group. Just search for Wigan Borough Business Club under 'groups'. Next week’s presentation is entitled 'Marketing on a shoestring' and is presented by the excellent Andrew Greenyer. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions just shout... Thanks, Paul.

Morning, I am posting on behalf of my netball team who are currently struggling to find any form of local funding. We have been an established team for the past year, encouraging new members of all ages and abilities to join. We currently have 2 teams (A and B) playing in the Tyne and Wear summer league, and even better it looks like we might get promoted before the winter league starts again! Anyway I am posting to ask if anybody knows of an alternative source of funding we could try (we have been down the usual routes of sport England and lottery grants) or knows of any local business’ that might be interested in sponsoring us. The frustrating part is it's not like we require much money, we have a fantastic experienced coach who volunteers to train us and we manage to pay for the Newcastle college sports hall between ourselves. However, we are the only team playing in the league that does not have a proper netball kit! We have a hearts set on kukri netball dresses for the next season, and really just require a small amount of money to help us out. Obviously we are 100% willing to have company names printed on them also! This is perhaps a long shot but just thought id try it out, Thank you for reading,

Hi all, I'm helping run a free networking event in Aspers Casino, Wind Street, Swansea on 23rd September. Oh yeah, and there's free food as well! The format is pretty relaxed and not too long:- 7-7:30 meet up and some informal networking 7:30-8:30 speed networking 8:30-9 nibbles and "word from our sponsors"(Aspers and BestofSwansea) After that, you can enjoy the excellent facilities in the casino (and if you haven't been - they are fantastic even for a non-gambler like me!), brave the rest of Wind Street, or even go home (it is a Tuesday after all!) This is the third one I have been involved with and the last two were great fun with some good business done. We are anticipating 100-150 local businesses there. All attendees will be emailed the contact details of everyone that came the next day so you don't have to be obsessively collecting cards. PM if you need more details or email the main organiser at [email protected]/* */ Hope to see you there - it could even tie up with the ongoing 'Meet up?' thread saga and kill 2 birds with one stone. Regards, Jon.

Hi, Sorry to hear that your firm is being sold, but it's good that you are looking on this as an opportunity to do something for yourself. My initial advice would be to do it. Speak to one other person you think may be interested in helping you and see if they want to do it with you. As you take more work on you will always be able to take subcontractors on to help. This could be a cheaper and less risky option compared to employing lads from day one. As far as marketing the business we have always been big believers in local networking groups, such as BNI. They are great to meet other local business owners and a great way to spread the word about yours. The next thing I would do is put together a Cashflow projection to get an idea of how much money you think you may need to set up; for tools, van, signage, marketing etc. We would be happy to help you with this, or if you would like to chat about any other questions relating to starting up please don't hesitate to contact us free of charge. Good luck Simon Forbes Watson Forbeswatson.co.uk

I originally posted this a couple of weeks ago in "General" but this is a more-relevant forum. I'm starting a new group on LinkedIn called "Worcester & Droitwich Small Business Support Group" to encourage small businesses in the Worcester and Droitwich area to interact with each other and help us all benefit from what we each have to offer. Both start-up and established businesses are more than welcome to share ideas, give and receive advice, and generally help us all to develop and grow our ventures. There are 21 members so far, including five from UKBF. It's early days and whether or not it succeeds as a useful resource depends on the participation of the members. As a group member, If you want to either raise questions or share any experiences, just click on the “Start a Discussion” icon and take it from there. For those who don't know LinkedIn, it's a business (as opposed to social) networking site. There's a brief guide to it at http://www.businesszone.co.uk/item/179918?ref=ukbf. Having read it, if you join LinkedIn, don't forget to also join the group if you're broadly within the Worcester/Droitwich area. The next few weeks will be critical in getting the group established, so the more the merrier If you're interested in joining either PM me your email address and I'll send you an invitation (the address won't be used for anything else!) or, if you're already a LinkedIn member then find the group in the 'Groups' directory and join up from there. Feel free to start and join in any discussions, and encourage other local businesses that you know to join. Either pass on their email addresses to me by PM and I’ll send an invitation, or easier still if they are LinkedIn members already just point them to the LinkedIn Group Directory where they can find us and sign up.

Anyone ever advertised with these guys ? If so, how well did it perform ? There prices seem a little too high for me as it's a small publication that goes out 5 times a year. They have three different areas..... "Rates: To help local businesses as much as we can in this challenging economic climate, we’ve held our prices for a fourth consecutive year. Rhiwbina Living: Business card £52.50, Quarter Page £95, Half Page £185, Full Page £365 (4,400 copies delivered door-to-door by US in Rhiwbina) Whitchurch and Llandaff Living: Business card £55, Quarter Page £110, Half Page £225, Full Page £450 (6,000 copies distributed free throughout Whitchurch, Llandaff and Llandaff North – shops, supermarkets, surgeries, coffee shops etc) Danescourt Living: Business Card £25, Quarter Page £49, Half Page £99, Full Page £199 (1,500 delivered door-to-door by US in Danescourt. Please note that this is an A5 publication)" The above it taken from here. The quality of their print is very good, but not too sure about the content. That said I only have one issue from one of the areas that they cover. I think I'd rather pay less for a larger circulation with better content and slightly lower quality print.

The small business video production and marketing company, BusyVids, has announced plans to further expand its operations throughout the UK. With continued interest in video marketing from the small business sector, the company is looking to recruit "an army" of self-employed sales people. The new sales force will target local small businesses within their own home locations, building a loyal database of local clients. Each sales person will be allocated an area approximately 20-30 miles radius of their home base, and renumeration will be based on commission only. However, the company has said they will pay generous commissions on each confirmed order, as explained by Managing Director Bill Knight. "We are recruiting self-employed sales people to work their own areas, build relationships with local businesses and earn a very good living from helping small businesses within their community", he said. "We have realised that we cannot possibly get our message out to the many thousands of small businesses who operate locally, without the help of local sales people", he added. Busyvids has grown exponentially since its launch back in April 2012, and its continued growth is testimony to the success of video marketing generally, as it gradually replaces traditional forms of advertising. Video is now considered to be highly valued in terms of website content, by Google and the other major seach engines, and is proved to help with ranking. For more information about sales opportunities with BusyVids, telephone 01275 837 577 To learn more about BusyVids and their range of services visit their website at: www.busyvids.co.uk

Hello fellow South Westies! I'm trying to get more involved in the local business community and would like to run an idea past you all - just to gauge some interest before I start looking into setting it up formally. I'm considering setting up a half day online marketing workshop covering all aspects including PPC, SEO, affiliate marketing, email marketing, social media and conversion rate optimisation. There are a few different ways I could run this, including extending it to a whole day event if needed, but as business people in the South West, do you think there is a market for this sort of thing and would it be useful? Just a little footnote - the aim of this wouldn't be to generate revenue from ticket sales, it would simply be a networking event with expert help on hand to deliver help to local businesses. Any thoughts much appreciated - positive or negative! I'm not invested in this idea greatly so I'll be thankful for any comments.

As I mentioned previously I am in the process of setting up a dedicated business event for Wales. We are receiving a great response to it and it is something that local businesses to me that I have spoke to are looking forward to. My question to you is, what would you like to see at the business event, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what will be involved anyway but to make this event a success we need to involve welsh business and see what they would like to see at the event. In fact a handful of questions if you would kindly spare the time. What would you like to see at the business event? What would be the most important factor to make you exhibit at the event? How often would you like the event to take place? Which venue would you prefer to see the event at? (ie town & building) What area/industry of business/public prospects would you like to attract to your business? I know every persons answer will probably be different but that is what I am after, we really do want to make this the best event for you and Wales. Thank you in advance
