Morning all, Sorry for missing this at first - thanks to those of you who messaged me with a link! Happy to say that a couple of things have come out of reading the thread this morning: This is now a sticky in the General Business Forum - it's great to hear from people who have successfully used the site to build partnerships and drum up business and Daniel's intro guide reads better than anything I've put together so far (plus it's straight from someone who has used the site in this way!). Ideally, as many people (especially new members after a bit more guidance) should see it as possible We're looking into the option of adding member reviews in much more detail and, obviously, as the people who would be using and benefiting from them, we want to work on this with you. I'll add an edit to this thread in a moment with a link to some notes in a new feedback forum thread. Please do share your thoughts. Thanks to Daniel / JetVirtual for starting this thread! Update: Thread's up! I'll be testing this all out today & tomorrow to see how I can make it work without breaking anything else important

Hi there I'm Sian I am new to this business forum, recently started new business in RCT in holitic treatments and a fellow user recomended the site for general business info. I'm considering some of these network meetings but there are so many to choose from a little lost. Have started going to Women's entreprenueruship scheme in Glamorgan Uni and met a couple of people. How are people finding the forum any tips or hints on getting the best out of membership? I'm now looking to expand my business and look at linking in with local businesses and trying to get some subsidies for certain activities. No idea where to start!. Look forward to speaking to others soon. Sian

Kat, just to conclude what was discussed in the earlier thread: Kat Haylock said: ↑ Unfortunately there are no system hijinks that allow us to lock older threads! Plus I dread to think what would happen if I tried to edit 4200 General Business threads at once. There's also no way to limit members posting on certain threads I'm afraid. Believe me, this pains me as much as you; manually finding and closing ten year-old threads resurrected for the sake of a "this is gud" is not the most thrilling part of my day.Click to expand... This would be a very easy feature for any developer to implement into the forum - whether this forum is bespoke or off-the-shelf. Plenty of other forums have systems like this in place which automatically locks and archives very old threads, and doing them all at once for the first time automatically (which I presume would involve a MySQL database run) would take minutes without any downtime. It's worth inquiring about this, I'd say.

I put this on General Business yesterday, did'nt get a reply? I'll try here, hope someone can give me a little feedback.. Has anyone ever had dealings with PPL, I dont play music to members of the public or staff. I pay a PRS licence and have for about 3 years as I have a TV in my office mainly used to watch share prices. After hearing horror stories with regard to these people, I knew my days were numbered before they got in touch. A guy rang from them last week, after alot of heated discussion and ear ache I hung up on him. I had an invoice for 59 plus vat, Do I pay it or ring them up and try to explain again, what I tried to explain to him or just pay it?. Thanks in advance

Hi everyone, as the title says, I am selling my business and have it on Many general business sales sites such as Dalton's. Are any of you aware of a catering or East mids specific sales site? It is quite unusual in being in a country park and making significant profit too! Many thanks!

The one (only) refreshing thing I’ve seen from Kat is that she’s at least blunt enough to tell it as it is, no pussyfooting around, not leaving anyone in any doubt that few if any views of the community will be listened to. I still browse the site, but more often than not on a mobile or tablet, and I’m never logged in on any such device as the responsive design does not lend itself to posting, so I’ll only login when at a PC – should I decide to post on a thread. With the demise of membership & overall activity that the CMs have encouraged over the last few years, there is little or no purpose to login just to visit the private forums, so I’ll be among the masses (which I think is more than 90%) of visitors that won’t typically see the website reviews. At least the attitude of Kat & Sift has been prominently posted – in General Business Forums, rather than Feedback, and pinned too – so I’ll continue to give more of my attention elsewhere. Karl LimpertClick to expand... Sift seem intent on ruining all of their websites. Accounting Web has had a complete overhaul. The majority of changes are what the members said they didn't want before development. The more regular posters have left. The most 'liked' questions are the questions complaining about the site.

Now I'm sure that there are some very good business coaches out there who a great deal of experience and are very good at what they do BUT.... There seem to be more and more who don't seem to have anything to bring to the table whatsoever. I've come across a few recently in the course of general business and scratch beneath the surface of insane niceness and all of them have hardly any experience that I would say qualifies them to 'coach' a business owner. Two of them had never even run their own business! What they all seem to have in common: They LIVE at networking groups (I'm surprised they have time to do anything else) They are pathologically happy They are inevitably NLP 'Masters' (don't get me started on NLP, fake people skills for people with no people skills and will never have any) Social media is the answer to everything.

Hello everyone, I'm based in Southampton but do telesales of a conflict prevention program to businesses all over the UK. I'm relatively new to the UK from Canada and running my own business so I look forward to learning from the forum, and contributing wherever possible as I have a lot of experience working in small businesses. If anyone has advice on (tele)sales, general business or if you'd like info please PM me.

I thought I would introduce myself in this region as well as I am now spending 2 weeks in every 6 or 8 in Scotland (Crianlarich to be exact). I do telesales, marketing of all sorts, and general business support, latest jobs are brochure and website content for plastic pipes, telesales for specialist foods, and a marketing strategy for musical instruments. It's a long trip from Somerset but the business climate in Scotland seems very welcoming...
